"OEKO-TEX® certified" gets printed on a lot of labels, but most parents have never actually been told what it means — so here's the plain version.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent lab test, not a marketing claim a brand can just decide to use. To carry the certification, a fabric has to be tested for harmful substances — things like formaldehyde, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and allergenic dyes — at levels stricter than most national safety regulations require, especially for products meant for babies and young children. If a fabric passes, it means an independent lab has verified it's free of those substances at the point you're buying it, not just "probably fine."
For adult clothing, that's a nice-to-have. For something a baby or toddler sleeps in every night, pressed against their skin for eight-plus hours, it's a genuinely different level of assurance — especially for kids with sensitive or eczema-prone skin, where harsh dyes or chemical residues can be the actual cause of nighttime irritation that gets blamed on "just sensitive skin."
